The Experience
Compagno classes incorporate the study of classical music with modern music and technology. With weekly opportunities for collaboration students become well versed in performing duets, trios, and even two piano performances. These classes put a huge emphasis on technique as it is imperative to the development of skills and advancement as a pianist. Your child will do more than just prepare scales and chords for an exam. Students really delve into the purpose of chords and scales. They gain confidence to find these patterns in their pieces, build their own compositions, and improvise. Students are taught that music is a way to express and communicate through the use of film, poetry, composing, and more. They study many different styles of music and learn how to make connections between the old classical masterpieces and today’s modern styles.

During the year students have the opportunity to join four different workshops with their peers, attend Edmonton Opera fieldtrips, and perform on many different occasions. Students also build many skills that benefit them outside of the music world. They are constantly paying close attention to detail, persevering through challenges, building confidence, and pushing the boundaries of what they can really accomplish. Repertoire and projects are chosen exclusively for each student to ensure the best possible learning experience. Students who choose to participate in exams and the Kiwanis Music Festival gain a very rewarding experience while also achieving fabulous results.
